Young Guyanese Entrepreneur Launches Platform to Transform Fundraising

A young Guyanese entrepreneur is seeking to modernise fundraising and investment opportunities through a new digital platform called "Pitchin."

Founder Carl Handy recently unveiled the initiative, describing it as a centralized platform that allows individuals, charities, community groups and organizations to raise funds through a single trusted online location.

The idea was inspired by a common challenge faced by many Guyanese families. During medical emergencies and other crises, fundraising appeals are often shared across social media platforms, WhatsApp groups and personal networks, making it difficult for donors to verify information and contribute confidently.

Pitchin aims to address that problem by providing a structured platform where campaigns can be managed transparently and supporters can donate through a single link. Food For The Poor is among the organizations already utilizing the platform.

Handy’s vision extends beyond fundraising. A planned second phase, known as “Pitch Invest,” will allow entrepreneurs and startups to connect with potential investors and supporters interested in backing businesses in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, technology and renewable energy.

The initiative represents the type of homegrown innovation that Guyana needs as it expands its digital economy. Rather than importing solutions from abroad, Handy has focused on solving a local problem with technology designed specifically for Guyanese users.

As Guyana’s technology sector continues to grow, initiatives like Pitchin demonstrate that local entrepreneurs are increasingly creating solutions with the potential to serve not only Guyana, but the wider Caribbean and beyond.
