From the very beginning I, rightly so, maintained my innocence and placed my faith in God, the judicial process (though this was not easy) and the truth. Today, that truth has prevailed.
I extend my sincere gratitude to Her Worship, the Magistrate, for her careful consideration of the facts and her commitment to the principles of fairness and justice. I also wish to thank my legal team led by Mr. Nigel Hughes, whose diligence, dedication and reassurance ensured that the truth of the matter was properly presented before the court each appearance.
To my family, friends, supporters, and every person who stood by me when doing so was neither popular, convenient nor easy, thank you. Your encouragement, prayers, calls, messages, and belief in me carried me through some of the most difficult days of my life. I will never forget the people who chose loyalty over speculation and truth over gossip.
I also wish to acknowledge the professionalism with which I was treated by members of the Guyana Police Force, especially those in whose care I was for almost three weeks when bail was refused. While public commentary often descended into ridicule, accusation, and sensationalism, the officers with whom I interacted conducted themselves with courtesy, respect and empathy.
Unfortunately, not everyone demonstrated the same level of integrity. False narratives were created and repeated as fact for the sake of clickbait and jokes.
Some individuals went so far as to make calls to the prison where I was briefly held, misrepresent themselves as lawyers from a particular firm, even invoke the names of high ranking officials so as to seek confidential information to interfere with ongoing proceedings, or exploit a difficult situation for their own purposes. Others attempted to embarrass and humiliate me through photographs, commentary, and public ridicule at a time when the matter was still before the court.
Most disappointing of all were those who knew me personally, my character and values. People who shared my table, my friendship, my confidence, and my trust were among those quickest to believe the worst, repeat rumours, and distance themselves with statements when their support would have mattered most.
Yet despite everything that transpired, I leave this experience without bitterness.
This ordeal has given me a deeper appreciation for justice, for due process, and for the importance of supporting those who find themselves accused before they are heard.
It has revitalised my commitment to service, advocacy, and to treating others with fairness, dignity, and compassion regardless of circumstance. I have seen firsthand how easily a person’s reputation can be attacked and smeared despite having the cleanest slate and how important it is that truth be allowed the opportunity to emerge.
To those who stood by me, I celebrate with you today. I move forward with a greater understanding of both the strength of the human spirit and the value of genuine loyalty.
Above all, I thank God, whose grace sustained me through every challenge and whose faithfulness never wavered.
Today is not merely the end of a case.
It is the restoration of truth, and for that, I am profoundly grateful.
This is all I wish to say about the matter.
