US$6M Puruni River bridge to commence construction in August

Residents and businesses in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) are set to benefit from improved connectivity with the construction of a new bridge across the Puruni River, a major infrastructure project that will strengthen transportation links and support economic development in the mining district.

President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali announced on Monday that the bridge project, valued at approximately US$6 million, is expected to commence in August this year.

Speaking during a government outreach in Bartica, the president said the project forms part of a broader programme to modernise infrastructure and improve access across hinterland communities.

According to the head of state, construction is expected to take approximately eight months once work begins.

The bridge is expected to improve the movement of people, goods and services within the region while providing safer and more reliable access for residents, miners, farmers and businesses operating in the area.

The announcement comes as the government continues to advance a series of major infrastructure projects across Region Seven to support economic activity and improve residents’ quality of life.

President Ali noted that significant investments are already underway in roads, airstrips, health, education and energy infrastructure throughout the region.

The Puruni River bridge is expected to complement ongoing economic expansion in the region, including increased mining activity and the development of large-scale initiatives such as the Oko West Gold project.

The president said the government remains committed to ensuring that development reaches every community and that infrastructure investments create new opportunities for growth and prosperity. DPI
