Six people were murdered overnight, in three incidents across two police divisions in southern Trinidad, leaving communities shaken.
Of the six, five men were shot dead, and another was stabbed to death in attacks that occurred in less than 12 hours.
Police said the bloodshed included a triple murder in one district and a double murder in another area.
In Ste Madeleine, three men were fatally shot after gunmen opened fire on them.
An 18-year-old man told police he was walking his dog around 1.23 a.m. when about 15 rounds of gunfire rang out.
The deceased were identified by the police as Clairey Kingfi, Martin Harripersad, 43, and a third man identified as ‘Jo’.
They were found in a house and in the yard of a property on Sixth Street.
Hours earlier, two other men were gunned down in a separate attack in Penal.
On Sunday night, officers of the Penal Police Station responded to reports of gunfire about a kilometre away from the station, near First Citizens Bank off SS Erin Road.
Two men were killed and a third man was hospitalised with gunshot injuries.
Their identities were not yet released by the police.
And in Fyzabad, a man was stabbed to death in a domestic-related incident on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Micah Joseph of John Jules Street in Fyzabad.
The killings pushed the overnight death toll to six and marked another violent period for communities in the south.
Police said they are pursuing several leads and are appealing to members of the public with information to come forward.
Homicide detectives of Region Three are continuing investigations.
