As the Cooperative Republic of Guyana marks sixty years of Independence, the Institute for Action Against Discrimination (IFAAD) extends warm greetings to all Guyanese at home and in the diaspora.
This Diamond Jubilee is both a moment of national pride and a time for sober reflection. Independence was secured through sacrifice, unity, and an unyielding belief in the dignity and equality of all people. Those founding ideals must continue to guide our national journey.
IFAAD, we reaffirm that true independence is not defined solely by the passage of time, but by the lived reality of our citizens. A nation can only be genuinely free when discrimination is rejected in all its forms, when justice is applied without fear or favour, and when every Guyanese—regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or social standing—can participate fully and equally in national life.
As we commemorate sixty years, we call for renewed commitment to social cohesion, mutual respect, and inclusive governance. Our diversity remains Guyana’s greatest strength, but it must be matched with fairness, accountability, and a shared responsibility to confront prejudice and inequality wherever they arise.
IFAAD remains steadfast in its mission to advocate, educate, and act against discrimination, and to promote a Guyana where unity is not merely a slogan, but a lived principle.
On this historic milestone, may we honour the struggles of the past by building a future grounded in equality, justice, and respect for human dignity.
Happy 60th Independence Anniversary, Guyana.
