Ubraj Narine has extended best wishes to thousands of students across Guyana who will sit the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) on April 29 and 30, 2026, urging them to remain calm, confident and focused as they undertake one of the most significant examinations of their primary education journey.
In a statement, Pt. Ubraj Narine, JP, COA, Former Staff Sergeant (GDF), Mayor of the City of Georgetown, commended students for the hard work, dedication and perseverance that have brought them to this stage.
He encouraged candidates to give of their very best, while reminding them that the NGSA, though an important milestone, does not define their full potential or future success.
“While the NGSA is an important milestone in your academic journey, it does not define your full potential or future success,” Narine said, as he wished every student success and positive outcomes.
The NGSA is the national examination used by Ministry of Education Guyana to assess Grade Six pupils and determine placement into secondary schools across the country. The assessment traditionally covers four core subjects — English Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies — and plays a central role in the transition from primary to secondary education.
The examination is often seen as one of the first major academic tests for young learners, with performance helping to determine placement at some of the country’s top secondary institutions. In preparation for this year’s sitting, the Ministry of Education held two rounds of national mock examinations to help students sharpen their readiness.
Narine also acknowledged the role of parents, teachers and guardians in supporting the children throughout months of preparation, extending best wishes to families as students complete the assessment.
