Death row inmates  among four who escaped from Mazaruni Prison

Two condemned murderers are among four prisoners, who escaped from the Mazaruni Prison on Monday, the Guyana Prison Service has confirmed.

The two convicted murderers – Imran Ramsaywack and Kenrick Lyte – along with Samuel Gouveia and Ryan Jones, are wanted by the Guyana Police Force for escaping from lawful custody (Mazaruni Prison) on Monday. February 16, 2021. Gouveia is in prison for manslaughter while Jones has been sentenced to 28 years for a similar offence.

Ramsaywack, 25, was admitted into the Mazaruni Prison on July 4, 2019 after he was condemned for murder. Based on a description provided by the Prison Service, the 25-year-old Indo Guyanese has an old scar on his left side of his stomach, is 5”8” in height and brown in complexion.  His last known address is Lot 7 Adelphi Village, East Coast Berbice.

The other wanted murderer is 44-year-old Kennrick Lyte of Grant Goodintent, Lower Pomeroon River. The man, who is of African descent, was admitted to the Mazaruni Prison on March 1, 2019 after being condemned for murder. He is 5”8” in height, brown in complexion and has a scar at the back of his left arm and freckles on his chest.

Samuel Gouveia, who was in prison for manslaughter, is a 26-year-old slim built rasta man, of mixed ethnicity. His last known address is Lot 13 Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara.

Meanwhile, Ryan Jones, a 22-year-old, Lot 121 Timehri, East Coast Demerara resident, who was sentenced to 28 years in prison for manslaughter. He was admitted on July 17, 2018.

According to the Prison Service, Jones, who is of mixed ethnicity, has multiple tattoos on his right arm and an old scar about his body. He is 5”8” in height and fair in complexion.

The Prison Service, in a statement on Monday, said the Police Force in its efforts to recapture the inmates, is appealing to members of the public, relatives and friends to give any relevant information as to the whereabouts of the escapees, so that they can be captured and returned to the prison.

“Also an appeal is being made to the escapees to surrender to the police or relevant authority, to avoid any serious confrontation that is likely to result in the use of force,” the Prison Service said.

It said too that all information provided will be treated with a high degree of confidence and also the rights of those escapees will be respected and upheld.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Imran Ramsaywack, Kennrick Lyte, Samuel Gouveia and Ryan Jones is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 455-2238, 455-2222, 455-2241, 226-4585, 225-2700, 225-3650, 226-1326, 911 or the nearest police station.
