Member of Parliament and Leader of the Forward Guyana Movement, Amanza Walton-Desir, is currently in Mexico City where she is participating in a series of high-level engagements with parliamentarians and policy leaders from more than 125 countries.

Walton is attending the annual forum of Parliamentarians for Global Action, where she serves on the Executive Board. The forum brings together legislators from around the world to examine issues related to governance, justice, and international cooperation.

As part of the programme, Walton is engaged in discussions on the role of international courts, including the International Criminal Court, and the responsibility of elected officials to uphold justice, accountability, and the rule of law.

According to the release, the discussions come at a significant time for Guyana, as recent developments have highlighted the importance of strong and credible judicial systems at both the domestic and international levels, including institutions such as the Caribbean Court of Justice.

The engagements are also examining how increasingly interconnected legal systems influence national outcomes, with emphasis on ensuring that advocacy at the local level is informed by regional and global legal frameworks.

Walton’s participation, the release noted, reflects a continued focus on ensuring that Guyana benefits from international best practices in governance and justice, particularly through engagement with global partners aimed at strengthening institutions and promoting accountability.

“These discussions are not abstract. They directly impact how we improve governance and accountability at home,” Walton said. “My focus remains on ensuring that the people of Guyana are served by strong institutions and a justice system they can trust.”

While in Mexico City, Walton is expected to continue meeting with international counterparts, exchanging ideas and building relationships aimed at supporting transparency, institutional integrity, and effective leadership in Guyana.
