Taxi driver, GT businessman nabbed with cocaine

A taxi driver who plies the Georgetown to Berbice route and a businessman, who hails from Georgetown have been arrested shortly after being nabbed with cocaine.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said the drug busts were made on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at different locations in the city.

It explained that Cordell Moore, a 47-year-old taxi driver of Glasgow Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam Berbice, was intercepted at the Berbice Car Park on Commerce Street Georgetown. At the time, Moore was the sole occupant of the car. The car was searched and suspected cocaine was found hidden in a panel of the trunk totaling 504 grams of suspected cocaine.

On the same day, Ulric Jordan – a 50-year-old businessman of Lot 10, Camp Street, Georgetown, was intercepted in front of his home with a bag containing a digital table top scale with traces of suspected cocaine on the said instrument.

CANU said both suspects were arrested with quantity of cash in their possession.  The suspects are to be appear before a City Magistrate on Friday, February 12, 2021 to face Trafficking in narcotic charges.
