Family members of Alwin Joseph, who went missing in the Corentyne River after leaving Suriname for Guyana on Monday night was Wesnesday morning found dead by relatives who went out on a search and rescue along the Corentyne foreshore.
The body was found within the vicinity of the #60 foreshore, about three villages away from where the trio was reportedly expected to disembark.
Family members said that around 06:25 hrs they discovered the man’s body washed up on the shore.
“He nah get no marks of violence on body and we find him wearing a soldier colour vest and short pants. That’s all we find him with. The body nah get no marks or anything, the man’s cousins related.”
Nandranie Shamsundar, another cousin of the young man said it’s a very heartbreaking situation and that they were hoping for the best.
“I don’t know how to feel now. All the time he coming Guyana he does stop by me and he used to live with me for couple years. It’s very sad. We contact his wife over in Paramaribo and she’s sad too.”
One of the relatives who was on the search team this morning told the village Voice News that the man’s body is “fresh”.
“He fresh. He nah get no swelling or nothing. He was kind of fat but his belly just slightly high because he has to swallow water if he drowned. And by he went in the water for so long, his ears had some blood which might be because his eardrum burst.”
Police were contacted and the body was immediately taken to the mortuary. A search is still ongoing for the remaining two, Sharida Hussein and Baboni Harirar.
