Elderly man drowns at Henrietta koker

…allegedly left house with bottle of rum

Police are investigating the alleged drowning of a 70-year-old man, Chitramjan Das from the Essequibo Coast who was allegedly left his home with a bottle of alcohol and was found dead in a koker.

According to reports, the pensioner resides at Richmond Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast and was found dead on Tuesday about 08:45 hours at Henrietta, Essequibo Coast.

Inquiries disclosed that the deceased resided with his wife. On the said date, the man left the home about 06:00 hours with a bottle of alcohol.

About 09:00 hours the man’s wife received information that her husband fell in the koker. As a result, she went to the Henrietta Koker and, with the assistance of public-spirited citizens, retrieved the motionless body of the pensioner.

The body was examined by police and abrasions on the right elbow and nose were observed.

The body was escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The body is presently at the Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination. Further enquiries ongoing.
