The Chief Executive Officer of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation (CJIAC), Mr. Ramesh Ghir, recently held high-level discussions with senior executives of SITA (Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques), including SITA Americas President Mr. Shwan Gregor, as part of the airport’s strategic drive to enhance technological innovation and passenger experience.

The meeting focused on advancing CJIAC’s ambitious technology roadmap, which includes the integration of biometric systems and other modern airport solutions designed to streamline passenger processing and boost service quality.

CEO Ghir described the initiative as a key component of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s broader vision for transforming CJIAC into a “modern, efficient, and technologically advanced gateway that embraces digital solutions to enhance the overall passenger experience.”

Among the major areas discussed were:

  • Self-Check-In Kiosks: SITA was tasked with working closely with all airlines operating at CJIAC to ensure passengers can fully utilise the self-check-in kiosks already installed at the airport terminal.

  • Off-Airport Services: Mr. Ghir outlined plans to extend airport services beyond the terminal by deploying Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS), along with self-check-in and baggage tag printing stations, at major international hotels across Guyana. This initiative is aimed at giving passengers the convenience of beginning their check-in process before reaching the airport.

  • Reduced Processing Times: The CJIAC CEO also requested that SITA include provisions for curbside check-in and self bag drop services—both crucial for speeding up the departure process.

In response, SITA executives reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Guyana’s aviation sector, describing the country as a “critical market” for the company. They pledged to deploy the latest technology solutions in line with CJIAC’s goals and the evolving expectations of modern travellers.

The meeting concluded with both teams agreeing to work closely on implementing the discussed upgrades. These developments mark a significant milestone in CJIAC’s ongoing transformation into a regional leader in passenger processing and biometric technology.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Ramesh Ghir, CEO of CJIAC; Mr. Shwan Gregor, President of SITA Americas; Mr. George Miley, Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean; and other senior SITA executives.
