Wanted man shot dead by cops

…during alleged confrontation at Ogle Seawall

A 22-year-old Plaisance, East Coast Demerara man, who was wanted by the Guyana Police Force for robbery and assault, was shot dead by the police, during a confrontation at the Ogle Seawall on Friday.

Dead is Sherwin Filley. The Police Force, in a statement, the 22-year-old was shot at around 01:50hrs on Friday at Ogle Seawall, East Coast Demerara. He was wanted for robbery, robbery with violence and three counts of wounded committed on a 50-year-old resident of Vryheids Lust, ECD.

According to Police Force, ranks, acting on information received, went to an abandon wooden shack at Ogle Seawall at around 01:20hrs. Filley was reported locked inside.

“As a result Police decided to force open the door and attempted to apprehend Filley who was armed with a cutlass. The suspect then attacked the Police who discharged a round which struck Filley to his eye, he fell to the ground and was picked up and escorted to the GPHC where he was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty who pronounced him dead on arrival,” the police explained in the statement.

The body is presently lying at the GPHC Mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.
