By Mark DaCosta- In a bold declaration aimed at the younger electorate, the Alliance For Change (AFC) has unveiled a comprehensive plan prioritising youth empowerment, casting their proposals as essential for shaping the future of our nation. The party’s vision encompasses a robust educational framework, significant financial support for young entrepreneurs, and extensive opportunities across various sectors.

The AFC’s dedication to youth is commendable, particularly in a landscape where the voice of younger generations often struggles to be heard amidst the chaos of political discourse. Recognising that today’s young people will be tomorrow’s leaders, the AFC’s platform is designed to ensure that they have robust support systems in place to thrive in their educational and professional pursuits.

Central to the AFC’s manifesto is the promise of free education that transcends the mere absence of costs. Envisaging a holistic approach, the party proposes that every student should have access to essential resources — personal tablets, complimentary internet services, transport allowances, school uniforms, and nutritious meals. Moreover, the introduction of a substantial $75,000 grant per school term for each child signals a deep commitment to fostering an environment conducive to learning.

Amidst this educational framework, the party also seeks to empower those transitioning into the workforce. Recognising the importance of practical skills, the AFC has pledged to provide free certified training, equipping youth with the expertise needed to thrive in an evolving job market. Importantly, this initiative will come alongside stipends and essential startup tools, ensuring no young individual feels abandoned as they embark on their professional journeys.

Moreover, for the budding entrepreneurs among our youth, the AFC promises a considerable $1 million in startup grants paired with interest-free loans. These financial incentives aim to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit and support local businesses through tax breaks and simplified registration processes. This initiative could serve as a lifeline for many young aspirants struggling to turn their ideas into viable enterprises.

In a progressive move, the AFC has also proposed a scheme to provide house lots to citizens upon reaching the age of 18. Such measures could significantly enhance the sense of independence and dignity among young individuals, allowing them to envision a future built on stability and self-sufficiency.

In the context of employment, the AFC’s plans extend to ensuring that our youth gain access to a variety of sectors including oil and gas, eco-tourism, sports, renewable energy, agriculture, and technology. The party promises high-speed internet access in every community, a crucial step in enabling youth to connect and compete on a global scale – a significant move towards inclusivity in our diverse society.

This comprehensive youth-centric agenda marks a stark contrast to the current administration’s approach, which many critics say has overlooked the needs and potentials of young Guyanese. The AFC’s vision represents a proactive stance, urging a collective effort to cultivate a nation where every youth has the opportunity to dream, aspire, and lead.

One analyst  noted that It is indeed admirable that a political entity like the AFC has chosen to focus its campaign on youth issues, understanding the transformative power of investing in our young population. This initiative is an expression of hope, positioning the AFC as a party committed not just to rhetoric, but to tangible action that would bring about real change.

As our country continues navigating its complex socio-political landscape, the AFC’s proposals offer a refreshing perspective aimed at empowering the very foundation of our future — the youth. With a clear trajectory laid out for youth education, employment, and empowerment, the alliance presents itself as a viable alternative for voters seeking genuine change ahead of the upcoming elections. It is imperative that the voices and aspirations of young Guyanese are not just acknowledged but actively supported as they embark on their journey toward leadership and innovation in our ever-evolving nation.
