Security in Region Ten has received an upgrade with the official commissioning of a new $33.9 million Command Operations Centre, aimed at strengthening crime-fighting capabilities through cutting-edge technology and enhanced coordination.

The high-tech facility, launched on Wednesday, is part of the Government’s ongoing “Safe City to Safe Country” initiative, which seeks to extend advanced surveillance and policing systems beyond urban centers. Equipped with real-time monitoring capabilities, the centre allows for faster response times and improved situational awareness, giving law enforcement a strategic advantage in tackling criminal activity across the region.

Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn, who officially opened the facility, emphasized investment in building is part of upgrading the capabilities of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), including expanded camera networks, improved forensic tools, and enhanced training for officers.

“This is not just about buildings and equipment,” Benn said. “It’s about giving our officers the tools, training, and technology they need to serve communities more effectively and make Guyana a safer place for all.”

The command centre features strategically placed surveillance cameras throughout Region Ten, designed to assist in criminal investigations, real-time tracking, and rapid deployment of response teams. According to officials, this technology has already shown success in other parts of the country, leading to improved detection and resolution of crimes.

Police personnel assigned to the centre are undergoing specialised training, both in crime response and in the operation of surveillance technologies, ensuring the system is not only functional but effective in achieving its goals.
