Former senior Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) official and educator Duarte Hetsberger has thrown his full support behind We Invest In Nationhood (WIN) presidential candidate Azruddin Mohamed, calling him a “visionary businessman” who has long invested in communities and delivered real help to those in need.

In a letter to the nation, Hetsberger traced his own journey from teaching in the remote community of Santa Rosa, Region One, to senior electoral management roles in Georgetown, saying his career was shaped by service, discipline, and building systems that work for the people. He said his experiences in education and election administration showed him the urgent need for fairness, accountability, and equitable distribution of resources — values he believes Mohamed and WIN embody.

Hetsberger described WIN as more than a political party, calling it a movement for ordinary Guyanese: single mothers, ambitious youths, and working fathers seeking dignity in honest labour. He urged citizens to seize the moment for national renewal, declaring that “when we invest in nationhood, we all WIN.”

See letter below:

Fellow Countrymen,

From the remote classrooms of Santa Rosa in Region One, where I shaped young minds as a secondary school teacher, to the operations room of the Guyana Elections Commission, where I rose to senior ranks within the commission, to help safeguard our democracy, my journey has been one of service, discipline, and building systems that work for people, a path I never planned, but one I felt destined to walk.

I began as a trained teacher at the Cyril Potter College of Education, giving me firsthand insight into the challenges teachers face, overcrowded classrooms, limited resources, and the need for greater support. My journey then led me to GECOM, where I served as Personal Assistant to the Chief Election Officer and as Returning Officer for Georgetown, roles that demanded precision, transparency, and a steadfast commitment to our democracy.

Through my service at the Guyana Elections Commission, I came to see that precision, teamwork, and accountability are the pillars that uphold a nation’s promise to its people. From orchestrating logistics to working alongside the Police Force in safeguarding vital materials, I carry forward the experience that will, in a WIN government, ensure every resource is protected, every service finds its mark, and every community is treated with fairness and dignity.

There comes a time in the life of a nation when history gives us a choice to remain in the shadows of broken promises, or to walk boldly into the light of a new tomorrow. That time is now. That choice is clear. That future is WIN. We Invest in Nationhood.

I have seen the struggles of our people up close. I have heard the voices of the unheard. And I know that WIN is not just a party but a movement. A movement for the single mother who rises before dawn to make ends meet, for the youth with dreams but no open doors, for the father seeking dignity in honest work.

And at the heart of this movement stands a man I deeply respect, Azruddin Mohamed.

A successful, visionary businessman, committed to service and resolute in standing with the people. Long before seeking public office, Azruddin Mohamed was already investing in lives, empowering communities, and delivering real help where it was needed most.

That is why I lend my full support and endorsement to Azruddin Mohamed and the WIN Party. Together, we can build a Guyana where every child can dream and every dream has a chance. Where leadership listens, acts, and delivers. Where change is not just promised but is actually materialized.

When we invest in nationhood, we all WIN.

Duarte Hetsberger
