Daniel Williams, Headmaster of Three Miles Secondary School in Bartica, collapsed and died suddenly last evening while addressing a political meeting in Agatash, Region 7. He was speaking on behalf of the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
Moments before collapsing, Williams had been urging attendees not to support the blue party — a reference to the We Invest In Nationhood (WIN) movement and its presidential candidate, Azruddin Mohamed. He claimed Mohamed had “robbed the country of $10 billion,” in an apparent reference to longstanding allegations by the U.S. government, which has accused the Mohamed family of tax evasion and involvement in gold smuggling. The Mohameds have since hired U.S.-based lawyers to address the matter.

Following his unexpected passing, the Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) extended heartfelt condolences to Williams’ family, school, and community. In a statement, the group said, “This is a sad reminder that behind the colours, the flags, platforms, and rallies, we are all human beings.”
“A family has lost a loved one, a school has lost a leader, and a community is grieving,” FGM added.
The organisation further noted that in moments of shared sorrow, unity is paramount. “At the end of the day, we are one people, in this one nation — and we must find ways to live and work together,” it said.
President Irfaan Ali, in a statement on his social media page, expressed his sorrow at the loss, describing Williams as a dedicated public servant who gave his life to educating and uplifting his community.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Comrade Daniel Williams… He dedicated his life to serving the community,” the President said. “We are grateful for his unwavering dedication and will honour his memory by working even harder to ensure the development of Region Seven and our country continues under the PPP/C.”
The President also extended condolences to Williams’ wife, two children, and extended family, praying they find strength and courage in the days ahead.
The Alliance for Change (AFC), in a statement, expressed deep sorrow at the sudden passing of Williams. The party said, despite political differences, his loss is felt by all. Extending heartfelt condolences to the deceased family, colleagues, students, and the Bartica community, AFC said as Guyana continue through this election season, may the citizened be guided by compassion and respect.
