Capitol News Senior Editor Iva Wharton was elected President of the Guyana Press Association on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Ariana Gordon of Kaieteur News was unopposed for the position of Vice President, while Svetlana Marshall of News Source was elected Treasurer. Samantha Alleyne-Williams of Stabroek News will serve as Assistant Treasurer.

Wharton secured 40 votes, defeating her opponent Rawle Toney, who received 12 votes.

The other elected committee members are Gordon Moseley, Royston Drakes, Miranda La Rose, and Sherwin Belgrave. Kurt Campbell of NewsRoom and Bibi Bacchus of Safe TV News have been co-opted to the executive body.
