…says leak led to allegations of racial bias against some Commissioners
The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) is investigating an internal leak of information which has led to allegations of racial bias on the part of certain Commissioners.
According to a release from the ERC, the post made reference to discussions taken at the ERC monthly statutory meeting on Monday January 11, 2021. At the meeting, certain Commissioners had collectively recommended public advertising for current, vacant senior job postings within the Commission.
The Commission said that it is now seeking to fast-track a thorough investigation following a disturbing social media post at the weekend alleging racial bias on the part of certain Commissioners as it relates to the filling of vacancies for Heads of Department.
“The leaking of information from private meetings of the ERC is unethical and intolerable. The lives of Commissioners must not be put at risk due to reckless and irresponsible behaviour by Commissioner(s) and/or staff,” the ERC stated.
“As a consequence, a thorough investigation will be launched with a view of identifying the source of the leak and have corrective action taken.”
