By Mark DaCosta- In a remarkable display of talent and dedication, Tanasha Destiny Hope Mayers from the Academy of Excellence has achieved the highest honour at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), securing a perfect score across all subject areas. Her outstanding performance underscores not only her personal dedication but also reflects the quality of determination of our teachers, culminating in a celebration of academic excellence.
Announced by Minister of Education Priya Manickchand yesterday at the prestigious Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Tanasha’s feat is unprecedented in recent years, with only one other student previously attaining such a remarkable benchmark in 2018. This exceptional accomplishment, securing an unwavering 100 percent with a total of 487.88 marks, positions her among the brightest students in our nation’s educational landscape, as she now prepares to attend Queen’s College.
The competition this year was fierce, with numerous students displaying exceptional abilities and determination. Kalissa Haimpersaud, a student from Huis’t Dieren Primary School in Region Two, followed closely behind Tanasha, earning second place with an impressive score of 487 marks. The performance across the regions showcases the hard work of both students and educators, painting a vivid picture of the dedication within our classrooms.
Regionally, the top achievers exemplified excellence and the promise of future academic success. Dravid Stoll from Kamwatta Primary in Region One scored 481.4, gaining admission to the Bishops’ High School. Meanwhile, Sandhyaa Swammy of Peter’s Hall Primary in Region Four, Safeerah Sheriff from the New Sapodilla School of Excellence in Region Five, and Adore Barnwell of Skeldon Primary in Region Six also made their marks, each earning places at Queen’s College with scores above 486.
Furthermore, the performance of students across all ten regions illustrates the broad educational potential within our homeland. With the top performers from Regions Eight and Nine, Pricilla Henry of Micobie Primary and Gustavo Abraham of Annai Primary, earning significant scores, it becomes evident that a wealth of talent exists throughout our nation. Even amidst the competitive landscape, students managed to distinguish themselves with exceptional results.
