Grief hung heavy in the air this morning as family, friends, and members of the community gathered to lay to rest 11-year-old Adriana Younge, the child whose life was tragically and suspiciously cut short.
Adriana’s lifeless body was discovered on April 24, 2025, in a swimming pool at the Double Day Hotel, Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo. The circumstances surrounding her death remain deeply troubling and unresolved, sparking nationwide outrage and calls for a thorough and transparent investigation.
At her funeral, there were no words strong enough to ease the pain on the faces of those left behind. Tears flowed freely as mourners remembered a bright, loving girl with dreams that will never be fulfilled. Her innocence, many said, should have been protected.
As Adriana’s casket was closed and moved to the hearse for the next part of the funeral rites, emotions ran high. Mourners were overheard pleading with the child to seek justice from beyond. “Adrianna,” one voice cried out, “make those who did this to you pay.” The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow, and a sense of unfinished justice.

“She was just a child,” one mourner whispered through tears. “She deserved so much more.”
Demands for accountability continue to mount. Her family remains steadfast in their vow to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.
Meanwhile, columnist GHK Lall, reflecting on Adriana’s death in today’s publication, wrote:
“It is time to say goodbye to Adriana Younge. Daughter. Sister. Neighbour. Tragic swimmer. Student. Citizen. One human example out of many that devastates Guyana. The irony of this goodbye is that Adrianna Younge will be reborn, revitalised, in the national memory, national conscience. I say farewell with this reminder.
The first and last tribunal that sits in damning judgement is individual conscience. Adrianna Younge will live on, to remind Guyanese how much they failed her, when they readily drowned themselves. Lord! Remove these savage beasts from deep within our breasts. May her soul rest.”
Adrianna’s farewell may mark the end of her short life, but for many, it is the beginning of a deeper reckoning — one that demands answers, justice, and change.
