The Mohamed- Jagdeo-Irfaan Conflict will not end well

Dear Editor,

President Irfaan Ali says can’t recall dialogue with Mohamed on Lamborghini (June 6). The nation should take note of this conflict between the Mohameds and President Irfaan and Vice President Jagdeo.  Jagdeo and Irfaan facilitated the Mohameds businesses and financial activities. Irfaan can’t claim ignorance. He allegedly facilitated, as claimed by Mohamed, the under-payment of duty on the Lamborghini and other imports. Irfaan could not have acted with Jagdeo’s rapport.

The President allegedly facilitated Azruddin’s duty free. Who else did he facilitate? Was it on account of being of the same religion or friendship? In light of the allegations from Azruddin Mohamed, and Irfaan’s lack of memory, there should be an inquiry or investigation of what really transpired. Should the country trust Irfaan and Jagdeo?

Should Irfaan remain the PPP Presidential nominee in light of the allegations against him? An investigation will guide the country about what really happened.

The Mohamed’s would not have been able to get away with what they are accused of without assistance from Irfaan and Jagdeo. It is recalled they have been close friends and socialised at each other’s home on the East Bank, Ogle, Leonara.

Azruddin and his father frequented State House as well as Jagdeo’s home. They attended birthday celebrations of Irfaan and Jagdeo as well as Eid celebrations in Leonara. Azruddin was at Jagdeo’s birthday bash organised by Ramroop in January 2024.

If history is any guide, and there is a lot of history, the explosive new falling out between the Mohameds and Jagdeo and Irfaan is not going to end well for all of them. The political battlefield will be littered with their scorched remains.

Azruddin will not sit by in silence and allow Jagdeo to ‘eye pass’ him. Both sides have goods on one another. One side encourages Washington to use sanctions to deter political ambition. It has not worked so far. Anyone who opposes Irfaan and Jagdeo suffer at the hands of their administration.

They hired people using state resources to go after anyone who criticises them. Several other people, besides the Mohamed’s, suffer legally or GRA goes after their businesses and other attacks, other slings and arrows, including taunts like ‘slack bukta’ and other nasty nicknames. The leadership has been lobbying epithets, The leadership vilifies critics, casting them into the political wilderness. They offer carrots to politicians in other camps to cross over, fishing quite a few.

What now from Jagdeo against the Mohamed’s? Jagdeo and Irfaan are very vindictive. Jagdeo and Irfaan engage in guerilla warfare with paid trolls to go after the Mohamed’s. Azruddin will likely use similar tactics to expose corruption and nefarious activities of Jagdeo and Irfaan.

This fight is going to end up like most mud fights do with both sides worse off. The question is how much worse the country will get with Irfaan and Jagdeo at the helm.

Yours truly,
Ramnarine Seelall
