The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has confirmed the recovery of the body of Lance Corporal Stefon Tudor, who went missing during a routine river patrol along the Cuyuni River on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

According to an official statement from the GDF, Lance Corporal Tudor fell overboard in the vicinity of the Makapa Rapids while on duty. Despite immediate rescue attempts by his patrol unit, Tudor could not be located at the time, the GDF said. A sustained search operation was launched by GDF units, with assistance from local partners.

His body was recovered on Saturday morning, approximately 800 meters from the location where he fell into the river.

Lance Corporal Tudor was a member of the 1 Infantry Battalion and was deployed at Eteringbang at the time of the incident. The GDF praised his professionalism, discipline, and commitment to duty.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues,” the statement read. “The Force stands in solidarity with all ranks as we mourn the loss of a soldier who died in the line of duty.”

The GDF has launched a Board of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Support is being provided to Tudor’s family as they grieve this tragic loss.

May 31, 2025: The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) confirms the recovery of the body of Lance Corporal Stefon Tudor, who went missing during a routine riverine patrol on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Lance Corporal Tudor fell overboard in the vicinity of the Makapa Rapids along the Cuyuni River. Immediate rescue efforts were made by his patrol team, followed by a sustained search operation led by GDF units with support from local partners.

His body was recovered earlier today, approximately 800 meters from the point where he fell.

Lance Corporal Tudor was attached to 1 Infantry Battalion and deployed at Location Eteringbang at the time of the incident. He served with professionalism, discipline, and commitment.

The GDF extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues and continues to provide full support to his loved ones during this time of grief.

The Force stands in solidarity with all ranks as we mourn the loss of a soldier who died in the line of duty. A Board of Inquiry has been established and has commenced its investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
