Medellín, Colombia – In a stunning display of dominance, discipline, and national pride, Guyana’s Raekwon Noel has etched his name into the history books with a once-in-a-generation performance at the 2024 Pan Am Aquatics Championships in Medellín, Colombia.

Noel captured four gold medals and shattered four national records, making this the first time a Guyanese athlete has ever achieved such a feat at an international swimming championship. His final triumph came in the 400m freestyle, where he not only secured his fourth gold but demolished the national record by an astonishing 5.30 seconds, clocking in at 3:59.46. It was the perfect capstone to a week of golden performances.

Earlier in the championships, Noel took gold in the 200m butterfly, where he broke his own national record in both the preliminary and final rounds. He followed that with a victory in the 100m butterfly, again resetting the national mark. In the 100m backstroke, he broke the record during the morning prelims and lowered it again to win gold in the evening final.

The final tally; four races, four golds, four national records. And all of it done without tapering, meaning Noel wasn’t even in full peak competition form, a testament to his talent, conditioning, and mental fortitude.

Noel’s achievements have ignited pride across Guyana and the Caribbean diaspora. His performance marks a defining moment in Guyanese sporting history, not just for swimming, but for what’s possible when investment, talent, and determination meet. From promising youth to Paris Olympian to regional legend, Raekwon Noel has become a symbol of excellence and inspiration for a new generation of Guyanese athletes.
