Today, March 1, 2025 the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security will shine a spotlight on gender equality with a vibrant, luminous event, “Glow Walk: Walk With Her,” marking the 50th anniversary of International Women’s Day. The event, which will take place at the Seawall Bandstand in Kingston, Georgetown, is expected to draw thousands of participants in a powerful display of solidarity and empowerment.

The “Glow Walk: Walk With Her” is designed to be more than just a walk—it is a statement of unwavering support for women’s rights, gender equality, and empowerment. As night falls, participants will illuminate the darkness with glowing sticks, symbolizing the collective commitment to stand up for the rights and safety of women across Guyana.

The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security has joined forces with a wide range of partners, including the United Nations, faith-based organisations, and dynamic women’s and men’s groups, as well as dedicated civil society organizations. Together, they are calling on all Guyanese to join the walk and show their support for gender equality and the empowerment of women.

“It’s an opportunity to stand with women and to stand up for things that matter in women’s life such as equality, rights, and empowerment,” said Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security. “We ask you to come out and lend your voices and bring that powerful momentum to a movement in Guyana where women will continue to realise that they don’t stand alone. We are standing with them, the girls of today, the women of today and tomorrow.”

The walk, beginning at 6:30 p.m, will set the stage for an inspiring cultural program at 8:00 PM, featuring performances that celebrate the achievements and contributions of women. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about resources and services available for women through informative booths set up by ministry partners.

The “Glow Walk: Walk With Her” is a free event, open to all Guyanese. In addition to free registration, all participants will receive glow sticks to light up the night in solidarity. The event also promises an engaging cultural program, showcasing the incredible talent and contributions of women across the nation.
