Dear Editor,

I am Rajin, a frustrated resident of Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara. The ongoing road construction in our community has left us in a state of despair, and it feels as though no one is listening to our cries for help despite several newspaper articles written on the situation.

GWI’s statement is irresponsible, callous and dangerous – water 630 times safe limit

The dust from the unfinished road is unbearable, especially for those of us with asthma. Infants, elderly, and bedridden residents are also suffering daily. We have begged for a simple water sprinkler to control the dust, but nothing has been done. This neglect is unacceptable.

The condition of the road is beyond dangerous. Accidents are happening frequently because of the large holes and poor temporary repairs. Vehicles have been damaged, including my own. Contractors started digging, left the job incomplete, and have caused more harm than good. Bridges are caving in, residents are forced to park far from their homes, and businesses have come to a standstill.

What is worse, there seems to be no accountability. The community meeting with the Public Works Minister Juan Edghill and Deodat Indar and team last year gave us hope, but nothing has changed. The road remains a hazard, and we continue to suffer in silence.

We need immediate action. The authorities must step in to:

We have had enough of this neglect. Please, hear our voices and bring relief to Sisters Village.

Yours truly,

Rajin

Frustrated Resident of Sisters Village.
