Vishnu Bisram’s distortion of our history painful

Dear Editor,

I read with pain Vishnu Bisram’s distortion of our history in his letter published in today’s November 25, 2024 Stabroek News, in response to my letter.  It is unnecessary to deal with the clumsy propaganda piece, except to note, first  the Fund was established by the British to allow Indian immigrants to return to India.

My letter is clear. The Fund was not used for that purpose and I stand by every word in my letter and ignore Vishnu Bisram’s fulminations that Hindu and Muslims Organisations that supported Burnham were the minority and that those who supported Jagan were the majority.

The intention of using the small sum, as sort of seed money, to begin the National Cultural Centre was to promote the idea behind CARIFESTA 72 to bring our people together in harmony, love and understanding.  CARIFESTA 72 was the first of its kind, a success  which brought glory to Guyana as we sought to make a reality of our Motto “One People, One Nation, One Destiny.’

The time to end this political propaganda is long overdue. Only the truth will make us all free.

Yours truly,
Hamilton Green
Elder
