On October 12, 2024, a team from the Pesticide and Toxic Chemicals Control Board, consisting of Inspectors Ashwani Kumar, Gomattie Manor, Marissa Braithwaite, and Communications Officer Tieanna Jordan, visited the STEM Guyana clubhouse as part of their public awareness activities for Agriculture Month. The team hosted two interactive sessions, engaging children from various age groups on the importance of chemical management and its impact on health and the environment.
Throughout the sessions, the children showed great interest, asking numerous insightful questions about the safe use of chemicals and their effects on daily life. The representatives took the time to address each question, ensuring the students had a clear understanding of the subject. At the end of the discussions, the students participated in fun and educational exercises designed to assess their grasp of the material covered.
Operations Manager Alisha Koulen expressed her appreciation for the initiative, noting that the sessions were well received and that the team’s efforts had successfully educated the children on the critical issue of chemical safety. “We are thankful for the team’s visit and for the valuable knowledge they shared with our students,” Koulen said, emphasizing the importance of such collaborations in raising awareness among young minds.
