…granted $300,000 bail

A Police Constable was on Thursday charged with causing death by dangerous driving at the Whim Magistrates’ Court.
Simion Alder appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh and was placed on $100,000 bail for each charge.

In August, the car Alder was driving slammed into a parked truck on the Whim Public Road killing three persons. The deceased were identified as 20-year-old Jessica Gallaway, 21-year-old Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Rank Kwesi Lewis, and 25-year-old Reon Moriah.
Alder was said to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

On the day of the accident, Lewis, Gallaway, Moriah and Alder attended a function at Alness Village, Corentyne. After the function, Alder headed to Rose Hall to take Gallaway home. It was on their journey that the accident occurred.

In his defence, Alder said he did not see a hazard light on the parked truck and as a result could not decipher that it was in his path.
An initial Police Report said that the driver of the truck said that he was in the process of parking the vehicle when Alder’s car collided with the rear of the truck.

Alder along with the three occupants, were pulled out from the wrecked vehicle and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where the trio was pronounced dead on arrival and Alder was treated for minor injuries.

The Police Constable is being represented by Attorney Dexter Todd.
