Sohail Mohamad, a New Amsterdam Secondary School student, scored 21 subjects at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination in a remarkable showcase of academic excellence. This remarkable achievement not only showcases his academic prowess but also highlights his dedication to pursuing a career in cardiology.
Mohamad is an aspiring cardiologist. He chose this path because he enjoys assisting people, and that would be his way of giving back to the Guyanese populace.
“I like helping people… Even in school, I assist my friends and classmates… It’s just who I am,” he said.
“In preparation for CSEC, I admit doing 21 subs was not easy, but everything has its challenges. But it was truly an experience—one that I’ll never forget. I had the help of all of the teachers at New Amsterdam Secondary School; they’ve supported me in any way they can. To get more assistance, I also attended private lessons around New Amsterdam and Canje. During the exam period, it was hard to study; however, I had to put in the work,” Mohamad told this publication.
He also highlighted that he slept early and woke up in the wee hours of the morning to put in the extra work and then prepare for school.
Mohamad added, “I like to challenge myself, and this is one of the reasons I wrote 21 subjects… I wanted to push past my limits and see how far I could go and if I could get the results, and I got the results. In life, nothing is easy, and I am happy with the results I received.”
Sohail highlighted that he faced many obstacles and challenges while preparing for CSEC; however, with the support of my parents, teachers, and other people in my life, he was able to succeed.
“Nothing comes easy; if you want success, you have to work hard for it. Though it may seem hard at the beginning, never give up. Overcome the challenges; seek help and mentorship; you can’t do everything alone. Keep pushing forward and go past your limits, and you will see the results,” is Mohamad’s advice to students.
Sohail’s journey serves as an inspiration to youth everywhere, demonstrating that with passion, hard work, and unwavering dedication, any goal can be within reach.
