Guyana’s e-Commerce development gets a boost with support from USAID CBEE-R

Wednesday the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) hosted a validation workshop to secure stakeholders’ approval of the findings and recommendations of a Sectoral Analysis for e-Commerce Development in Guyana.The analysis focused on the agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing, services, and wholesale and retail trade sectors. This event brought together key stakeholders to discuss and validate the analysis’ findings and to identify priority sectors that are best suited for e-commerce development in Guyana.

During the workshop, participants discussed the current state of e-commerce adoption in Guyana and constraints to e-commerce development. In keeping with Guyana’s e-Commerce Strategy, discussions also focused on the sectors most likely to benefit from adopting e-commerce now and in the near future.

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce (MTIC) played a central role in leading this initiative.

Key outcomes of the workshop included; increased awareness and understanding of the opportunities for e-commerce development in Guyana; identification and agreement on the priority sectors for e-commerce development; and commitment by MTIC to develop an action plan to implement the recommendations highlighted in the report.

The workshop is part of USAID’s Caribbean Business Enabling Environment Reform program (CBEE-R), which aims, in part, to enhance an open, inclusive, and secure digital economy. CBEE-R supports evidence-based decision-making and business growth that contributes to sustainable and robust Caribbean economies. By identifying priority sectors for e-commerce development, the Government of Guyana can design targeted interventions to develop sectors with the highest growth potential. By promoting e-commerce development, the Government of Guyana is poised to create a more efficient business environment, encouraging investment and economic growth.

USAID said it is committed to supporting Guyana in its journey towards e-commerce development and sustainable economic growth. The outcomes of this workshop mark a significant step forward in achieving these goals.
