…brother held over driver’s license

Brother of the late Joel Henry, Colwyn Henry and his mother, Gail Johnson have been arrested by the police after the family was stopped by the police and Henry was unable to produce his driver’s license which he had left at home. Following his arrest, Henry was assaulted by six police officers and his mother is being scurried to the hospital, reportedly fainting from the ordeal.

Reports are that Henry and his mother were making the journey home to West Coast Berbice (WCB) from the Brickdam Cathedral where a presentation was made earlier on by Director of the Argentine Team of Forensic Anthropology (EAAF), Dr. Luis Fondebrider, who is here in the country to assist in the solving of the Berbice teen murders.

A picture shared by the family’s lawyer, Nigel Hughes showed that Henry was bleeding from the mouth while his mother appeared unconscious.

Hughes posted to his social media page: “Just when you thought the Henry family had endured enough. Tonight, while the Henry family were returning home after attending Dr. Fondebrider’s presentation the Henry family, on their way home, were stopped at Sparendaam police station. Colwyn who was driving was unable to produce his driver’s licence because he had forgotten it at home in the rush to get to Brickdam Cathedral. He produced a photograph of his licence which was in the phone which showed that it was valid until April 2021. He was arrested placed in leg irons and assaulted by six police officers. The images of the injuries sustained are visible in the pictures. Despite the intervention of his lawyers and GHRA he remains injured and in custody. Gail Johnson, mother of Joel Henry was also arrested. She fainted twice while in custody.”

A video which surfaced on social media showed that while the police attempted to arrest Henry, Johnson engaged in a scuffle with the police attempting to prevent the arrest. Henry also struggled with the police during his arrest.

The family of the late Joel Henry as well as the family of the late Isaiah Henry (cousins) has been through much suffering since the loss of their sons. They have expressed their dissatisfaction with the pace of the ongoing investigation and Isaiah’s father, last told the Village Voice that he was pleased that Dr. Fondebrider was in the country to help.

However, the police have not yet provided the world-renowned expert with the necessary documents to assist in the investigation and he leaves the country on Wednesday. Three months have passed since the mutilated bodies of Isaiah and Joel Henry were found, as well as the body of Haresh Singh, another teenager who was killed not far from his home
