With a palette of vibrant colors and a passion for storytelling through art, 20-year-old Okeisha Walters is on a mission to share her unique artistic talents with the world. Her journey began in her childhood when she would spend hours drawing and painting in her small bedroom, transforming it into a haven of creativity.

“Drawing and painting have always been my hobby,” the young artist said. She was inspired by her mother and late grandmother, who were crafty.

“My late grandmother created crafty items; seeing this, I always wanted to follow in her footsteps… Mom is also talented and seeing this fueled my desire to join them, however, instead of creating crafty items, I painted… I enjoy doing this…,” Walters said.

Hailing from Trafalgar, West Coast, Berbice, the young artist was raised around nature and farming and loves it dearly. She enjoys taking pictures of nature and landscape scenery.

One of her biggest challenges was the fear of showcasing her work to others, as she believes that it is not good enough despite receiving good remarks from those she’s shared her work with.

She added: “I’m finally done doubting my abilities, and I’m finally ready to share my work with others and strive to do better.”

As she grew older, her art evolved. She began to experiment with different styles and mediums, eventually developing a distinctive approach that blends realism with abstract elements.

Her future plan is to build and have her own art gallery. She hopes to better her skills, be a mentor, and inspire others to go after their goals.

With each palate and brushstroke, Okeisha is not just painting a picture—she is crafting a legacy, one that will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the art world and beyond. As she continues to improve her skills and prepares to sell her paintings and share her vision, there is no doubt that she will rise.

“Put God first and do whatever you do, do it from your heart and to the best of your abilities. Also, ensure you practice, have the right resources, and a reliable support system,” is Okeisha’s advice to young people.
