Acquisa Josseph is more than just a teacher; she is a mentor, a motivator, and a source of unwavering support for her students. With over 7 years of experience in the classroom, her passion for education and dedication to her students have made her a beloved figure at Bygeval Secondary School.

Born and raised in Belladrum, she grew up with a love for learning. Her mother and grandmother, instilled in her a deep respect for the power of knowledge.

My teaching philosophy

My teaching philosophy centers on providing an environment for supervised discovery. I believe that meaningful, realistic experiences offer the most effective learning opportunities. As a teacher, I hold myself to

high standards, with the belief that I owe it to my students and community to bring consistency, effort, and warmth into the classroom.

“Every day, I want to enter the classroom with an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations. I hope to inspire and nurture these qualities in my students,” I shared.

Though she originally dreamed of becoming an agronomist, life took her on a different path, and she became a teacher instead. When she first embarked on this journey, she had no idea how deeply it would transform her.

Teaching helped her grow from a timid individual into a confident leader in the classroom. Through training, she realized how much untapped potential she had, waiting to be explored.

Acquisa’s passion for teaching was inspired by her late grandmother, a remarkable educator who ensured that everyone under her care excelled academically. Her dedication and the respect she earned from the community left a lasting impact on Joseph.

Similarly, her mother’s unwavering support motivated me to persevere through challenges. She ensured that I completed college, even when she contemplated giving up on her dream of teaching.

Teaching is both rewarding and difficult

“Over the past seven years, I’ve experienced both rewarding and difficult times as a teacher. Through this journey, I’ve learned the true meaning of patience, compassion, and understanding. I’ve taken on many roles—mom, sister, doctor, counselor—all because of my dedication to my students. Despite facing challenges that

made me want to quit, I always reminded myself that there’s a reason I’m a teacher. There are students whose lives I have yet to touch, and I know that I can make a difference,” Acquisa said.

To aspiring educators, my advice is to approach teaching with a positive mindset and to show selfless love for your students. Set boundaries, but always be firm, compassionate, and understanding.

Ensure that learning is happening in your classroom and help your students understand the importance of education, which will enable them to contribute to the sustainable development of their country.

To students, my advice is simple: “Stay in school, be disciplined, and strive for excellence. Take responsibility for your own learning, be open to new information and opportunities, and show gratitude to your parents and teachers by making the most of your education.”
