Guyanese-born, 17 year-old CC Dewar makes her movie debut alongside a star studded cast and iconic cartoon character Woody Woodpecker this Friday on Netflix (worldwide).

CC was born in Georgetown into a family of creatives with a long history in the arts in Guyana and its diaspora. She began acting at an early age, appearing in ads for leading brands through her family’s advertising agency Power Marketing. Her grandparents are well known musicians Marilyn and David Dewar, and her parents Jill and Aubrey met whilst performing with the Woodside Choir.

At the age of 6 she migrated with her family to Australia so her older brothers, Alex & Edward Power, could attend university. It was in Melbourne, where the family settled, that she began her training in the performing arts, taking advantage of all the wonderful opportunities available.

CC was soon picked up by a talent agency and began working as a model for brands such as Target and this experience has led to her sign a contract with leading agency Chadwick Models. As an actor she appeared as an extra in many international movies and Aussie TV shows.

CC is also blessed with musical talent and a wonderful singing voice which she has worked hard to develop. She has appeared in many Musical Theatre productions in lead roles including Rafiki in The Lion King, Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray, and Sheila in A Chorus Line. She also enjoys playing piano, electric bass and guitar.

In 2022 she won a place at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School to study Improvising Vocals for 3 years while completing her high school education. During the same year she began working as a professional Jazz Singer, performing in the jazz clubs of Melbourne where music legends including Olivia Newton John and Judith Durham of The Seekers began their journeys. Since then, every one of her shows have been sold out and well received by the audiences. She also performs at festivals in front of crowds of thousands and as the guest at shows of Aussie music legends.

Landing the role of Devin in ‘Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp’ was a dream come true and the culmination of years of hard work and commitment to the performing arts.

Working with Hollywood Director Jon Rosenbaum was a fantastic learning experience for CC, and she was thrilled to be described by him as a “scene stealer”! Whilst not the biggest role in the movie, star of the film Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds, RED, Fried Green Tomatoes, Boys on the Side, The West Wing, Angels in America) summed it up when she said of CC “Not surprising that the camper with maybe the smallest speaking part captivated my attention so thoroughly. You’ve really got something special.” She was also thrilled to work alongside Josh Lawson (House of Lies, Superstore, Mortal Kombat) who played Zane the leader of Camp Hoo Rah.

CC cannot wait to get back on set and hopes that Woody will be the start of even greater things. She finishes high school at the end of this year and plans to continue her performing arts journey through study at Uni and working in the industry.

‘Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp” follows Woody as he gets booted out of the forest and finds sanctuary at Camp Woo Hoo, which is facing the threat of closure. As Woody tries to lend a hand in saving the camp, his well-intentioned efforts result in uproarious chaos. Featuring live-action and incredible CGI, the film promises laughter for audiences of all ages courtesy of Woody’s antics. This modern twist on a timeless character honours Woody’s nearly 90-year legacy while giving him a contemporary makeover.

The film is produced by Universal 1440 Entertainment in co-production with Universal Animation Studios and distributed by Netflix.
