China is set to boost its imports of meat, dairy products and grains from countries in South America, Europe and the Pacific as the trade war with the US escalates.

According to Chinese officials and Reuters analysts, shipments to China from Brazil, a major supplier of soybeans, and Australia, a major supplier of wheat, could rise as the trade war escalates. Quoted from CNBC

China has retaliated against the US in response to Trump’s tariffs, imposing 10% to 15% tariffs on imports covering $21 billion worth of US agricultural goods.

China imported $16.26 billion worth of beef, pork and chicken from the US in 2024, but in its counterattack, Beijing imposed 15% tariffs on US chicken products and 10% on pork and meat products.

Meat shipments from South America and Europe to China are expected to rise as a result of the Chinese decisions. maaal.com
