A police constable has been placed under ‘close arrest’ following allegations of assaulting his teenage son, authorities reported on Monday.
Mark Forde, stationed at La Grange Police Station, was taken into custody after a video surfaced showing him beating his 17-year-old son on September 30.
According to initial investigations, the incident occurred around 7pm at the family’s residence.
Sources close to the matter state that Forde accused his son of neglecting household chores, leading to a heated argument. The situation quickly escalated, with Forde allegedly resorting to physical violence.
Reports suggest that the teenager suffered injuries to his face and body before managing to escape. He sought refuge with his uncle, Joseph Grant, who serves as an Inspector of Police.
Grant accompanied the young man to the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, where a formal complaint was lodged.
Following standard procedure, the victim was directed to seek medical attention for his injuries. The extent of the teenager’s injuries has not been disclosed to the public at this time.
The Guyana Police Force took swift action in response to the allegations, placing Forde under ‘close arrest,’ a measure typically reserved for law enforcement officers facing serious accusations.
This status restricts the officer’s movements and activities while the investigation is ongoing. (Caribbean Loop).
