15-year-old Carlos Leung-A-Weh, a student of a special needs school, was attacked and killed near his home at Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam on Wednesday morning. The suspect is reportedly a 41-year-old mentally ill man.
According to witnesses, before killing the teen, the suspect attacked another member of the community, Carlus Singh. Witnesses say that the suspect called Singh out of his home saying that the suspect wanted to make a purchase. However, when Singh came outside the suspect began to stab him. Singh managed to survive the attack and is currently in critical condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Following the attack on Singh, the suspect attacked and killed the teen.
The teenager’s mother told the press that, “I see the man coming with something under he shirt and he run and bore he (Leung-A-Weh) in he chest and when [my son] start holler for me and I go the man run me, I had to leff and run and go inside.”
The mother related that her son ended up in a nearby trench where the suspect continued the attack. The woman said, “He throw Carlus in the trench and he stab him till he dead.”
Eventually, onlookers pulled the teen from the trench. He was, however, pronounced dead at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
The suspect was subdued by residents. He was later taken into police custody.
