The Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, conducted from November 22 to 24 at the Pegasus Hotel, a three-day consultation meeting and workshop aimed towards strengthening health surveillance in Guyana, including the development of the country’s National Strategic Plan for Health Surveillance.

“We are not here to only dream and plan with you, but most importantly, to walk the walk towards our common vision and aspiration for health surveillance strengthening here in Guyana”, Dr. Luis Felipe Codina, PAHO/WHO Representative in Guyana, said in his opening remarks.

PAHO stated Guyana’s renewed commitment to health surveillance strengthening draws inspiration from the leadership and vision of Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony, who continues to champion the country’s commitment towards pandemic preparedness and response, disease elimination, the roll-out and implementation of the country’s essential health package, among others.

Participated by almost a hundred delegates from various agencies, partners, and stakeholders at national, regional, and health facility levels, the workshop produced strong consensus on the strategic direction and specific priority activities for the overall transformation and modernisation that is envisioned for health surveillance in the country.

With the commitment of the stakeholders, PAHO said it will continue to support the Ministry of Health to strengthen surveillance in Guyana.
