The foreign-owned Barama company, having fulfilled the requirements of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) now has the ‘Made in Guyana’ certified stamp on its “Guyana Tropical Plywood” products. The certification is valid for one year and can be renewed.
The company’s country General Manager, Mohindra Chand, speaking at a reception to mark the achievement said “as a foreign company we do recognise the significance of this certificate and how much it’s transcending into the new national thrust towards promoting local products and services,”
He recalled when more than a decade ago while at the helm of the GMSA, the company was calling for a ‘Made in Guyana’ branding to distinguish Guyaan from the region, and today this has transformed into a reality
Barama, which has been in Guyana for 31 years and is the largest plywood factory in the Caribbean, plans to get involved in more investment and expanding its workforce. 95 per cent of the company’s workforce is local.
It is the 15th company to be certified to use the ‘Made in Guyana’ certified stamp.
