Guyana has scrapped the COVID-19 vaccine card requirement for entry into the country.

“The government of Guyana has taken a decision to lift the COVID vaccine requirement for entry into Guyana with immediate effect from October 7, 2022,” the Chief Medical officer said in a letter to the Civil Aviation Authority.

The letter noted, however, that all travellers must continue to observe the public health measures set out by the Ministry of Health.

Previously, travellers had to produce vaccination cards before they were allowed to board a plane to Guyana.

In June, the government lifted the COVID-19 testing requirements for international travellers, following an evaluation of the number of cases and the availability of COVID-19 vaccines in the country.

Guyana has recorded 71, 366 infections and 1, 281 deaths linked to the COVID-19 pandemic after the first case was detected there in March 2020.

Like several other CARICOM countries, Guyana had implemented various measures including the wearing of masks and social distancing as a means of curbing the spread of the virus.
