Porter dies after falling off speeding truck

A porter died on Monday afternoon on the Number 65 Village, Corentyne Public Road after falling off a speeding truck, police have reported.

Dead is Dayonand Chandraban called Rasheed of the said village.  At the time of the incide t he was in the tray of the truck # GWW 7258 being driven by Ron Singh age 27 years.

Enquiries disclosed that motor lorry # GWW 7258 was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane at an alleged rate of speed of 50 Kmph while the porter was standing in the tray of the lorry which had zinc, cement and other materials when it was alleged by the driver that suddenly he heard a loud noise coming from the tray of his lorry and as a result of the sound he glanced into his right side rearview mirror and observed the said porter lying motionless on the centre of the said road.

He immediately stopped the vehicle and assisted in picking up the porter who was in an unconscious condition and he was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor who referred him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was further seen and examined by another doctor and subsequently died while receiving treatment.

The body is presently lying at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.

Breathalyzer test conducted on the driver recorded zero readings. He is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.
