Dear editor,

Brazil, our geographical neighbour has within the past 24hrs counted 500,000 Covid deaths, which is the second highest in the world. And the individual responsible for this catastrophe is none other than their laissez faire President Bolsonaro, who refuses to embrace public health measures such as lockdowns, face-mask and social distancing.

The reality is,  President Bolsonaro also cared less about vaccines hence delaying their purchase. The consequence is, the exponential increases in infections and deaths which have now birthed the new deadly Amazon variant, known as the gamma variant. But even as we agonise, looking death in the eye, the WHO and Infectious disease experts have forecast it will get worse, labelling Brazil a global Covid threat.

And with death at our doorstep, PPP rather than mitigating for it, is brainlessly engaging in a foolish spat with Dr. Keith Rowley, who recently rescued us from mass drowning and deadly leptospirosis, as he undertakes a stellar job in managing Trinidad & Tobago Covid crisis. But more concerning are our exponential increases in hospitalisations and deaths as a result of PPP not embracing public health measures and profiteering from vaccines, all mirroring President Bolsonaro. The result is, we have the highest death per capita in the Caribbean and with the Covid horror show playing out in Brazil, soon we may have our apocalypse and ultimately no Guyana.

But Mr. Editor, highest on the hierarchy of Democracy doctrines is the right to life. For sadly that is being denied to hundreds and soon to be thousands, even as cretinous quasi-democracy fighters receive PPP accolades, inclusive of love letters.

Admittedly, if only the buffoons knew what I know for they don’t know that they don’t know.

Regards
