A 14-year-old pedal cyclist is now suffering from head injuries and a fractured arm, after he was hit by a car on the Parfaite Harmonie Public Road, West Bank Demerara. The driver of the car is alleged to have hid the vehicle before making good is escape.
The Guyana Police Force, in a statement on Monday, said the accident occurred at around 18:50hrs on Sunday, April 25, 2021.
Police investigation has thus far revealed that the teenage boy, who resides at Recht-Door-Zee, West Bank Demerara, was riding his pedal cycle on the Parfaiite Harmonie Public Road when he was struck by a car – PZZ 2676 – which was proceeding in the southern direction. At the time, the car was being driven by Joshua Manbodh of St. Stephen’s Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.
Upon being hit, the pedal cyclist fell onto the road where he received injuries about his body.
“The driver of the motorcar drove away and parked the said motorcar some distance away in the back of a yard in Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara and fled the area,” the police said.
Public-spirited persons and the police, who were in the vicinity at the time, picked up the teen in a conscious state and took him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. There he was seen and treated by a doctor on duty and admitted. He suffered a fractured left arm, head injuries, laceration to his right side shoulder and bruises about his body. He was subsequently transferred to the
Georgetown Public Hospital where he remains a patient in the accident unit.
The motor vehicle was lodged to be examined by a licence and certifying officer.
