The A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) Coalition has turned to the National Assembly for answers on the Government’s decision to establish a Corporate Communications Unit within the Guyana Police Force.
The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), which was established in February, 2021, is being led by Mark Ramotar followed by his Stan Gouveia.

Last Thursday (April 15), APNU+AFC Member of Parliament Geeta Chandan-Edmond submitted a list of questions to the Parliament of Guyana, in her quest ascertain the legality and functionality of the CCU.

Further, the Opposition MP wants the Home Affairs Minister to tell the house whether the positions of the Director and Deputy Director were advertised, and the criteria used in selecting two.

“Can the Hon. Minister provide copies of the terms of the contracts for the appointments of the Director and Deputy Director of the Corporate Communications Unit?  Also, can   the Minister provide their qualifications, duties, and responsibilities and state if other allowances and benefits are afforded to the Director and Deputy Director, which are not included in their contracts?” were among other questions asked by the Opposition MP.

Further, MP Chandan-Edmond would like the House to be told whether the services of Ramotar and his deputy attract additional cost, and also, whether the roles of two overlap those of police officers who have been trained and assigned to perform similar tasks.
“Can the Hon. Minister indicate, other than the Director and Deputy Director, if they are other civilians attached to this Unit?  If yes, what are their qualifications, salaries, and allowances.  Further, were these positions advertised and what criteria used in selecting these individuals?” she asked, while also seeking to have the number of persons within the unit.
