– Michael Leonard says he is leaving politics
Michael Leonard has resigned from the Alliance For Change (AFC), Village Voice News has confirmed.
In his letter of resignation to the AFC General Secretary, David Patterson dated March 15, 2021, Leonard signaled his intention to resign from the Georgetown Mayor and City Council to pave way for another member to take up the position as councilor.
Without stating any reason for his resignation, Leonard told the AFC General Secretary: “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with you and the other members of the party to contribute to Guyana’s development. I wish the party continued success.”
When contacted by Village Voice News, Leonard said “I’m stepping away from politics.”
Noting that his departure from the party is an amicable one, Leonard said he has made his mark, and is ready to move on.
“I’ve contributed as much as I think I can to public service. I’ve work with Blue Caps to advocate for LGE [Local Government Elections]; contested with a community group, Team Legacy and with the AFC… [now] I’m just making space for others to advance in the party [and] contest the next LGE,” he told Village Voice News.
Since the August 2, 2021 Elections, a number of AFC Members have resigned from the party. Those include: Joel Edmond, Abel Seetaram and Reynard Ward.
