On Thursday, a businessman who stopped for the traffic light in traffic along the Eccles Public Road was allegedly relieved of some GY$500,000 by two bandits who held him up at gunpoint.

Police have launched an investigating into the robbery. According to reports, the robbery was committed on 36-year-old businessman Nandkumar Bahadur who is the owner of the Kumar Varieties Store located on De Willem Public Road.

Inquiries revealed that at about 18:00 hours on Thursday, Bahadur, along with a porter at his company, was heading home when he stopped at Eccles Public Road due to heavy traffic and the stoplight.

The two suspects, who were on a motorcycle, suddenly stopped alongside the driver’s side and the pillion rider pointed a gun inside the vehicle demanding the victim’s money.

During the process a round was discharged at the driver, hitting him to his thigh. The victim then handed over his haversack with the cash and documents and the two suspects then made good their escape.

The driver was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he is presently a patient listed as stable but serious. Investigations are ongoing.
