Police constable shoots child mother during argument

On Thursday evening, two members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Region Five Division who are in a relationship got into an argument at one of their homes which resulted in the woman being shot by the man for whom she shared a four-year relationship resulting in two children.

According to police report, the man, a Police Sergeant who is the Subordinate Officer in charge of the Blairmont Police Station, has been involved with a relationship with the woman, a Special Constable attached to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Onverwagt branch and living at Onderneeming, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

The incident which occurred about 20:30 hours at Onderneeming, WCB. Inquiries disclosed that the Sergeant went to the woman’s house though she told him the relationship was over due to continuous misunderstandings.

After another bout of arguments, he whipped out a handgun and discharged a round in her direction hitting her to the neck.

He then rushed to her to the Fort Wellington Hospital and left. The woman was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and she was transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where she underwent surgery and was admitted a patient. Her condition is listed as stable.

The scene was visited by a party of senior police ranks and evidence was collected. The sergeant has since been arrested told of the allegations and cautioned.

He denied the allegations and he was placed under close arrest. Investigations in progress.
