Brazilian Navy contingent calls on GDF

A contingent from the Brazilian Navy met with the Chief of Staff and senior officers of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Monday at Defence Headquarters, Camp Ayanganna.

The Brazilian team arrived on two patrol vessels belonging to the Brazilian Navy: the MACAU and BOICANA. Both vessels are berthed at the Guyana Coast Guard Ship Hinds Wharf, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

A statement from the GDF said that the visit forms part of OPERATION CARIBEX 2020, an annual Operation conducted by the Brazilian Navy which sends a task force to navigate Caribbean waters and to visit ports of friendly nations.

The team was escorted by Brazilian Military Attache` Colonel Marcelo Ambrosio. Naval Captain Alexandre Gildes Borges is commanding the voyage.

Chief of Staff, Brigadier Godfrey Bess said that over the years, co-operation between the two militaries, particularly with CARIBEX has resulted in a number of valuable opportunities for Officers’ development and capacity building.

Naval Captain Alexandre Gildes Borges thanked the GDF for its continued co-operation and support.
