Genesis Global Investments (LLC) run by a group of Guyanese has created a multimedia platform called Genesis-meets which is aimed at facilitating virtual learning and entertainment.
At a cost of $5,000 monthly or US$25 subscribers can login to the company’s website Genesismeet.com to experience the benefits of the platform.
Patrice Alleyne, the founder of the company, migrated to the United States when he was 18 years old and developed the expertise of building websites for churches.
“I never really found a niche, until I realised that the key was to find solutions to problems, so with that in mind, this year when the Coronavirus started, I saw there needed to be a solution to a problem, when everyone started to scramble for a learning platform but there was no platform really out there for them to turn to,” Alleyne said.
Alleyne’s platform merges the concepts of Zoom video conferencing and Google Classroom thereby making teaching and other forms of virtual communication more effective.
“So you are able to assign assignments to the kids by uploading it and the kids will now be able to download and it also provides you with video conferencing and live teaching. That is a plus with the platform, everything is in one place, everything is secure,” he said, adding that it can be used for all levels of learning, from nursery to university.
Educators can also upload notes, class schedules, discussions or pre-recorded sessions while keeping track of their students’ attendance and performances.
Alleyne related that since the launch, the response has been great internationally but the team’s goal is to sell the platform to the world as a Guyanese based initiative. The team includes Alleyne, Vice President of Sales and Marketing Dorwin Mitchell and Brand Manager, Ryan Lynton.
Recently, the trio met Minister of Education Priya Manickchand and other senior Government officials to discuss how the platform can be used to facilitate efficient and effective education delivery in Guyana.
“My purpose for coming here is that we are Guyanese, we want to start here first and I’ve noticed that there is no solution here except for zoom. It would be a dream of mine for Guyana to be the home for my company and to get it into the school’s system. We want Guyana to bring this service to the world, instead of Guyanese having to go to the world,” he said.
Alleyne related that the education minister made several demands which he believes can be met.
Meanwhile, the platform is not limited to the education sector. Alleyne disclosed that the platform can be used by businesses and corporate organizations that need to facilitate a virtual work environment or host training sessions. It also facilitates a unique and profitable feature for music artistes.
Brand Manager Ryan Lynton said that those involved in the arts, including music, drama and art, can utilize the platform to sell their products.
“Genesis allows artistes to become their own bosses, it gives artistes the platform to sell their music and merchandise and even keep live shows through Genesis and invite millions of people across the world. It is like a store for the artistes and even after COVID is over, I know for a fact, that this platform will still be relevant,” Lynton said.
Similarly, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Dorwin Mitchell said that the platform was also developed with job creation and youth empowerment objectives in mind, particularly in the ICT and STEM fields.
The team has plans to give back in this regard. Another characteristic of the genesismeets.com platform is that it facilitates E-Commerce which enables persons to sell their products and services virtually.
“We need the people from the diaspora, we need for people to come home, the bright minds and help and I hope this can actually help the businesses minded people out there, that our country needs developing and you can help to develop it,” Mitchell said.
The team believes that this platform is a plus for Guyana’s technological sector and is encouraging others in the Diaspora to invest in Guyana.
